Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has designated nine remote areas where expatriates working in private sector can register their children in government schools for the academic year 2022-23 if they are residing there, said an official.

“The government schools operating in Al Shamal City, Dukhan City, Al Karaana, Al Guwairiya, Al Zubra, Al Kharasa, Al Kaaban, Al Jamiliya and Rawdat Rashid are allowed to enrol children of expatriates working in private sector if they are residing in these areas for the next academic year,” said Education Adviser at the School Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Rashid Saad Al Mohannadi.

Speaking to Qatar Radio, Al Mohannadi said all government schools operating in these designated areas will accept boys and girls of expatriates except those in Rawdat Rashid which will admit only girl students because there are not enough seats in boys schools.

“A new girls school was opened in Rawdat Rashid which has enough seats to accommodate students,” said Al Mohannadi. He said that remote areas and villages were designated allowing expatriates working in private sector to admit their children because there are no private schools.

Al Mohannadi said that enrolling new students in government schools operating across the country is limited to certain categories including Qatari students, children of Qatari women, students of other GCC countries, children of non-Qatari working in ministries, government organizations and institutions and children of non-Qatari working with private charity organizations.

Registration in government school of phase 1 for the academic year 2022-23 for students of Qatari students, children of Qatari women and students from other GCC countries will begin tomorrow until June 9, 2022.

The registration in government school of phase 2 for the academic year 2022-23 for all nationalities will begin on May 15 until May 26, 2022.

“Government schools enrolled 129,248 students in the current academic year 2021-22, 2.63 percent more compared to the previous academic year,” said Al Mohannadi. He said that 14,766 new students were enrolled in the current academic year.

Speaking about the registration process of students in government schools, he said the guardians can access the public services portal on the website of the Ministry.
He said that they are required to choose the required service according to the time allocated for each category and for each service.
