Eagles to stick with Mark Sanchez for season finale vs. Giants

Mark Sanchez will remain the Eagles' starting quarterback in Week 17.

Before Week 16’s 27-24 loss to the Redskins , Eagles coach Chip Kelly left the door open for the possible return of Nick Foles . Now, with the Eagles  eliminated from playoff contention ,  Kelly says he’ll stick with Sanchez in Week 17 against the Giants.

"Mark’s our quarterback," said Kelly on his weekly morning show on WIP-94 FM . "I think Mark played a good game and we’ll continue to go with Mark."

Foles is making progress on his broken clavicle, an injury suffered against the Texans in Week 9. Last week Foles wore a helmet and participated in practice. Now with no playoff berth at stake, Kelly is letting Foles continue his rehab without pressure to return.

Philadelphia won’t turn to younger options in Matt Barkley or Marcus Smith.

Sanchez won three of his first four starts and was playing at a high level, but he then lost three straight games. He’s thrown 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in the process.

Kelly also discussed Michael Vick on his radio show. He said "there was no decision" when asked if Vick would have been a better option as a backup.

"Michael left and wanted to go to a team to start. So, Mike wasn’t coming back here to be the backup to Nick Foles. So, we were going and looking actively for a backup quarterback. I know Mike was headed in the direction where he was going somewhere where he hoped he was going to be the starting quarterback. So, that was never a consideration to bring Michael back."

The Eagles' plan for 2015 is unclear. Sanchez will be a free agent, and they will have Barkley under contract.
