The 45-year long diplomatic relationship between Qatar and Germany and the Day of German Unity was celebrated on Tuesday at the St. Regis Hotel.
The event, hosted by the German Ambassidor Hans-Udo Muzel, was attended by Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, H E Yousef bin Mohammed Al Othman Fakhroo; Minister of Municipality and Environment, H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie; Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi; Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Fakhroo, among other dignitaries, ambassadors.
“Living in a rapidly changing world, we are currently seeing a large number of conflicts that are setting entire regions back many years. This is why we, Germany, want to use our seat on the United Nations Security Council from next year to contribute to multilateral solutions worldwide,” said the Ambassador while addressing the ceremony.
“Looking at the Middle East, the situation remains difficult in many areas. In particular, since last summer, brotherly and neighbouring countries in the Arabian peninsula have been engaged in a worrying conflict,” he added. Muze explained that Germany’s position on crisis is that all parties should be guided by the principles of equality, mutual respect, dialogue, international law, and, above all, by the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“Gulf unity is essential to ensuring a peaceful and prosperous future for all Gulf countries and the wider region,” he said. The Ambassador said that Germany firmly support the mediation role of the H H the Amir of Kuwait.
He said, “Since 1973, when Germany and Qatar officially established diplomatic relations, our countries are partners in multiple dimensions. We agreed to enhance our bilateral cooperation on the exciting road to 2022 when Qatar will be the first Arab country ever to host the FIFA World Cup.”
