DOHA: Qatar Summer Festival has seen increase in the number of visitors compared to its previous edition, according to the main organiser Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
Over 180,000 people have already visited Entertainment City since the festival was launched on August 1.
Featuring new rides, games, stage shows and children’s activities, Entertainment City is the highlight of the festival which runs until this month under the theme ‘Colour Your Summer’.
Entertainment City also features food court and shops selling clothing, cosmetics, jewellery, perfumes and spices, among others.
There has been a notable rise in the number of tourists from neighbouring GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Faisal Al Mohannadi, Director, Public Relations and Communication, QTA, told Al Sharq.
The number of Qataris and residents flocking to Entertainment City has also increased significantly, he said, adding the first Friday of the festival saw over 12,000 visitors to Entertainment City. Malls and commercial centres, especially those participating in the festival, have also witnessed increase in footfall and sales. Festival activities have driven sales in malls threefold, he said.
The festival has also boosted the hospitality industry with an increase in hotel occupancy rate.
On Eid Al Adha Festival, he said preparations continue according to plan and QTA is partnering with organisations to ensure its success. He said Katara Cultural Village would organise display of fireworks during the festival. Activities for Eid Al Adha Festival will continue for five days and cater for all ages.
Malls will also organise shows and other activities such as face painting for children. Shows and activities for Eid Al Adha will be different from those held during Eid Al Fitr, he added.
