Doha: The electronic toll gate system, Qgate, will be launched only when main road projects in the country are completed. The details of Qgate will be revealed one year before the implementation of this system, said the Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said yesterday.
“We will announce details of Qgate system one year before it will be implemented,” Al Sulaiti said speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the launch event of Qatar Open Data Portal. “The project will be not implemented before the alternative roads are ready.”
The Minister said the project has not been fully developed yet and needs time and legislation. This will not be done until all the main road projects are completed, which he expected would be ready by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
On the air conditioning of stations for public transport, he said there is an integrated plan to make entrances and stations of the trains air-conditioned, with standards that respect the environmental regulations. The Minister said designing for it has started and tender preparations have begun and will be ready before 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Minister said the public transport system, in general, will be completed at least a year and a half or two years before the start of the 2022 Cup. He said all Qatari projects are moving at a fast pace and will be completed long before 2022, where some projects are not related to the World Cup but fall in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and will be completed by its planned schedule.
