Doha: The National Team for Child Protection against Violence organised yesterday the third awareness workshop entitled “Better Together”, at the National Service Academy, to educate children and adolescents from 10 to 18 years old about their rights, duties, and proper upbringing.

The programme of the awareness workshop “Better Together” was developed in collaboration with the entities concerned in Qatar and with the participation of social, educational, and mental experts specialised in this field.

The National Team for the Protection of Children from Violence comprises representatives from ministries and entities concerned with Child Protection in Qatar and was established by the decision of Minister of Public Health in 2021.

Professor Khalid Mohammed Al Ansari, Head of the National Team for Child Protection against Violence, said the workshop aims to educate children and adolescents on building a sound culture that is consistent with religion and values and to protect them against the risks they are exposed to, which have been aggravated by the negative content on social media and lack of censorship.

“We are guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and its goals especially those related to the pillars of social and human development. Caring for children, protecting, and raising them properly based on religious and moral values requires hard work and cooperation between all concerned entities in Qatar, embracing innovations and developing best practices in this aspect.”

Mohamed Yahya Taher, Head of the Moral Guidance Department at the National Service Academy, explained the importance of the workshop in protecting young students, especially in this period of globalization, explaining that by protecting children from destructive extraneous ideas, such workshops contribute to protecting society.

From biological and health perspective, Professor Al Ansari, who is also Head of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Sidra Medicine, spoke about the stages of growth of both genders and the biological change.

Abdulrahman Al Kadmani, a psychologist at the Behavioral Health Support Center, spoke about the importance of fulfilling the societal duty by providing correct information to children and adolescents from reliable scientific sources. Fai Al Hajri, a social specialist at the Naufar, discussed the risk of psychotropic substances abuse, ways of prevention, and the center of Naufar and the services it provides.

Dr. Muhammad Abdul Latif Al Nuaimi, Family Advisor at the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs, provided key information on educating adolescents within the framework of religious teachings, social standards, and moral values in society, adding that the Islamic approach is the key to leading a sound and stable life, preventing one from emotional distress accompanied by a loss sense of self.

First Lieutenant Mohammed Abdullah Al Naama, Officer of the Awareness and Information Section at the Juvenile Police Department, discussed the importance of educating children on prominent disruptive behavioural issues that they may face in adolescence and the role of the Juvenile Police Department in addressing these issues.
