The ‘Market Place’ at Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) is connecting the customers directly with the farms. The market is offering customers a unique opportunity to come in direct contact with farms and get fresh vegetables and flowers at lower prices.
Different agricultural farms situated in different part of the country have set up their stalls and are selling fresh vegetables and flowers directly to visitors.
The seventh edition of the four -day long exhibition, going on at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), is set to conclude today.
The Market Place has so far been successful in showcasing the country’s capabilities in the field of vegetable production. It has demonstrated that Qatar can produce world class vegetables at competitive prices.
“I was amazed to see Qatar’s potential in the field of agricultural which is being displayed in this high profile exhibition. But, I was surprised to see the ‘Market Place’ where fresh vegetables and flowers are displayed. The unique feature of this market is availability of vegetables and flowers at low prices,” said Mohamed Yousuf, who came to the exhibition to look for latest technologies in the field of agriculture.
“Vegetables are available in this market at very competitive rates and it is very difficult to find vegetables at this prices any retail stores,” he added.
Tomatoes are being sold at QR3 per kilogramme (kg) whereas those grown in green house facilities are priced at QR4 per kg.
Cucumbers are being sold at QR2 per kg, eggplants at QR3 per kg, capsicums at QR5 per kg, coloured capsicums at QR7kg, cabbage at QR3 per kg and cauliflowers at QR5 per kg.
Broccoli is priced at QR3 per kg, lettuce at QR 4 per kg, radish at QR2 per kg, pumpkin at QR2 per kg, long pumpkin at QR5 per kg and white onion at QR4 per kg. Sweet corn is priced at QR5 per kg and carrot is being sold at QR3 per kg.
“We are displaying our fresh products, which we are growing at our farms, in this exhibition. There is a strong demand of fresh vegetables and flowers from customers. This exhibition is a very good opportunity for farms to understand customers demand,” a representative of Al Khulaifi Farm, told The Peninsula.
AgriteQ is a unique event for Qatari farmers who are displaying their latest products to the public through a first-ever farmers’ platform, the largest of its kind in the country, with participation more than 68 local farms.
