Local sailors stamp superiority at Sail Qatar 2015

Doha: Local sailors dominated at the Qatar Sail 2015 to pick up three of the five individual titles at stakes while making a clean sweep in the Laser 4.7.
Yesterday, the Qatari trio of Abdulrahman Ajineh, Ali Al Muftah and Mohammed Al Sewaidi made it 1-2-3 for the home nation winning the three podium places at stake in Laser 4.7.
The second title for the hosts came when experienced campaigner Waleed Al Sharshani won the Laser Standard.
Faris Al Bakri won the Laser Radial to complete the domination for the Qatari contingent.
Of the two other titles decided on the final day, the Hobie-16 one went to the Kazakistan pair of Kanat Mangubayev and Galymzhan Darigul, while Daniel Hung of Singapore reigned supreme in the Optimist class.
In the Hobie-16, Qatar’s Hassan Al Baker and Mohammed Ismail finished third.
Sailors from  14 countries including Argentina, UAE, Australia, Belgium, British, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Italy, New Zealand, UK, Singapore, Spain and hosts Qatar are vying for top honours in different categories. In the Laser Standard, Ruslan Jangazou and Vladimir Chshankin, both of Kazakhstan finished in the second and third place.
In the Optimist, Jodie Lai  andDaniel Ian Toh, completed the clean sweep of the Singapore finshing behind the leader and compatriot Hung.
In the Laser Radial, Ali Bouhamud of Kuwait took the second place followed by Karina Jangazova  of Kazakhstan.
Sail Qatar 2015 is one of the two races QSWSF is hosting this month. From October 23 to 31, QSWSF  will also host the IODA Asian and Oceania Championship at the Katara Beach.
The QSWSF said top sailors from Asian and world will be seen in action in the championships.  
So far 16 countries have confirmed their participation for the IODA Asian and Oceania Championships and a few of them are likely to do so in the coming days. 
A total of 118 will be competing, including 38 female sailors.  Qatar has announced a 16 member squad comprising of four females sailors.
