Doha: Hosts Qatar emerged overall champions at the conclusion of the swimming competitions on the second day of the 28th GCC Aquatics Championship at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Doha,  yesterday.

Qatari swimmers bagged an outstanding medal haul of 30 gold, 15 silver and seven bronze medals to emerge on top for the fifth occasion in a row.

Saudi Arabia, with a total of 29 medals (8 gold, 12 silver and  9 bronze), were placed second while Kuwait came third with 35 medals (3 gold, 15 silver, 17 bronze). Bahrain (3 gold, 3 silver, 9 bronze), UAE (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze) and Oman (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze) are in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots respectively. 

Also, Qatari swimmers also emerged on top in all three age categories. Ziad Morsi (three gold two silver) was named the most promising swimmer in 11-12 years category while Abdullah Al Ghemri was adjudged the best in the 13-14 years age group. 

Omar Hassan was named the best swimmer in the 15-17 age group. All three Qatari swimmers received their trophies and certificates from the President of the Qatar Swimming Association, Khalil Al Jaber.
