DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning plans to offer junk removal services to commercial buildings, shopping centres and complexes for an annual fee.
The fee is to be collected based on the size of dumpsters a building, commercial outlet or shopping complex uses.
The Public Hygiene Department responsible for neighbourhood clean-up, must formally approve the project and only then could it be implemented.
According to the ministry’s website, for the ordinary 240-litre and 360-litre garbage dumpster, the annual fee will be QR1,000 and for 1,100-litre dumpster QR1,500.
However, for a seven-yard dumpster the fee will be QR13,400 and QR14,400 for a 13-yard and QR15,400 for 18-yard dumpsters.
The ministry said that it had begun shooting off letters to the targeted segments — commercial buildings and shopping complexes. They will have to specify their requirements based on which they would be provided with waste clean-up services.
Residential buildings, including villas and complexes, will not be charged any fee for waste removal and services will continue to be free, the ministry added.
