Manila: An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck Eastern Samar Province and surrounding areas in the Philippines.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the tremor occurred 18 km southwest of the town of Hernani, at a depth of 28 km.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material losses.
The Philippines is experiencing increased volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where tectonic plates intersect.
