Doha, Qatar: Turkish club Trabzonspor condemned what they considered an “inhumane” and “disgusting” act committed against their Egyptian forward Mahmoud Trezeguet.
According to the club statement, Fenerbahce SK player Samet Akaydin had spat on Trezeguet while the latter was prostrating (in a sujood position) in celebration of his successful penalty kick conversion against the former's side.
The alleged incident took place during a Thursday, May 18 Turkish Süper Lig fixture in which Fenerbahce defeated Trabzonspor 3-1.

Trabzonspor called out to both the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Fenerbahce SK management to “take immediate action” against the alleged spit.
Samet Akaydin, the player accused of spitting on Trezeguet, denied the allegations on his social media, claiming “manipulation” by those trying to “pollute” by being slanderous to Allah in reference to the alleged spitting incident taking place while Trezeguet was prostrating like Muslims do during prayer.
Akaydin’s club Fenerbache took to their official social media to defend the player, saying that Akaydin had confirmed that what had allegedly transpired was “manipulation” caused by changing camera angles.
The TFF has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
