CONCORD, North Carolina: Dangerous weather caused the cancellation of yesterday’s qualifying session for the fourth annual Dollar General NHRA Four Wide Nationals near Charlotte.

The Qatar Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel team, the two-time NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel World Champions owned by Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani will have two chances to qualify the race today.

The Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals is the only event on the 24-race NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule at which the cars race four-wide, side-by-side.

A Tornado watch was issued around midday, and just as the Qatar Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel teams were preparing to tow the cars to the staging lanes for the first round of qualifying, torrential rains and high winds began causing a quick decision to cancel competition for the day.

“The bad weather we had today was unfortunate,” silver Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon said after the torrential rainfall delayed yesterday’s proceedings for all drivers and teams in the US.

“But cancelling the rounds was the right decision for everyone’s safety. These things happen; we’ll only have two rounds of qualifying this weekend, but it will be the same for everyone so we’ll do our best to get this silver Al-Anabi car qualified near the top of the field and go four-wide racing on Sunday,” he added.
