QE Index surges 887 points since start of 2022

Led by strong advances witnessed during the past trading sessions, shares in the Qatar Stock Exchange have concluded the week with strong gains. The QE Index has gained 193.86 points or 1.57 percent last week.

However, the index has surged 887 points or 7.6 percent since the start of this year, helped by strong buying support from local and international investors. The index had gained 359 points or 3 percent during the second week of the new year. The index had surged 334 points in the first week of this year.

The index closed yesterday at 12,512 points compared to 11,625 points on December 30 last year. The index was able to register weekly gains despite 100 points fall recorded yesterday. Of the total five trading sessions of last week, the index has closed higher on four trading sessions. Trading value during this week accounted QR3.31bn and the trading volume reached 951.7 million with 66,807 transactions.

Market capital-isation reached QR716.4bn this week as compared to QR700bn at the end of pre-vious week. The QE Index rose 0.3 percent on Wednesday to close at 12,612.3.

The Real Estate and Transportation indices led the gains. The index rose on the back of buying support from GCC and foreign shareholders despite selling pressure from Qatari and Arab shareholders. Volume of shares traded on Wednesday rose by 21.9 percent to 169m from 138.6m on Tuesday. Further, as com-pared to the 30-day moving average of 128.1mn, volume for the day was 32 percent higher.

The QE Index rose 0.8 percent on Tuesday to close at 12,570.6. The Insurance and Banks & Financial Services indices led the gains. The index rose on the back of buying support from GCC and foreign shareholders despite selling pressure from Qatari and Arab shareholders.

Volume of shares traded on Tuesday fell by 37.2 percent to 138.6m from 220.8m on Monday.The QE Index increased 0.3 percent on Monday to close at 12,471.4.

Gains were led by the Banks and Indus-trials indices, gaining 0.8 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively. Top gainers were Qatari German Co. for Med. Devices and Ahli Bank, rising 3.6 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Investment Holding Group fell 2.6 percent, while Gulf Interna-tional Services was down 2.3 percent.

Volume of shares traded on Monday fell by 4.2 percent to 220.8m from 230.5m on Sunday.The QE Index rose 0.9 percent on Sunday to close at 12,433.5. Gains were led by the Telecoms and Real Estate indices, gaining 1.3 percent each. Top gainers were Ezdan Holding Group and Salam International Inv. Ltd., rising 6.7 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively. Among the top losers, Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding fell 1.1 percent, while QLM Life & Medical Insurance was down 1 percent.
