Shell, Texas A&M sign pact for analytical testing

DOHA: Qatar Shell  has recently signed an agreement with Texas A&M University  Qatar to conduct analytical testing of its samples from Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant, the world’s largest GTL plant that was jointly developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell. 

This agreement paves the way for a more efficient testing process, as these samples were previously sent to Amsterdam, and further enhances the long-standing partnership between Qatar Shell and the university, said a press note. 

“We are proud to be tapping into the scientific and technical expertise available locally in Qatar and to strengthen the collaboration between academia and industry,” said Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies. ”Qatar Shell is always on the lookout for these opportunities locally that can benefit our business and the wider Qatar society in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Qatar Shell is committed towards developing research & development opportunities in Qatar. In 2005 it established the Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre, a world-class research and development facility and learning centre at the Qatar Science & Technology Park. 

Texas A&M at Qatar Dean and CEO, Dr Mark H Weichold, said, “Collaborations such as this with Qatar Shell help the university fulfill its mission of being a valued resource to the State of Qatar and the professional community. Texas A&M at Qatar provides state-of-the-art equipment and know-how to industry and organizations in the State of Qatar. It performs quality research driven by real-world problems and develops and transfers technology to industry. The analytical testing Qatar Shell will execute at Texas A&M at Qatar include utilisation of the university’s Central Materials Facility and Fuel Characterization Lab.
