Jerusalem: An Israeli was run over by a vehicle and killed on Tuesday when he got out of his car on a West Bank road after Palestinians threw stones towards it, the army said.
Details of the incident were unclear, including why the man stopped and got out, and whether any stones had actually struck his car.
The driver of the vehicle that hit him was believed to have left the scene, but local media said he turned himself into Palestinian police later and said the crash was an accident.
The incident near the Al Fawwar refugee camp outside flashpoint city Hebron came amid nearly three weeks of unrest that have raised fears of a full-scale Palestinian uprising.
Some 43 Palestinians and one Arab Israeli have been killed in the upsurge of violence that began at the start of the month, including alleged attackers. Eight Israelis have died in attacks.
Violent protests have erupted in the occupied West Bank, annexed east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. Young Palestinians throwing rocks and firebombs have faced off against Israeli security forces, who have responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and live fire.
Israeli settlers in the West Bank have also clashed with Palestinians.
