Doha: Ooredoo has reported strong demand for its updated Tetra Automatic Vehicle Location service upgraded at the start of summer, as more companies in Qatar look to track the rising volume of assets required for the building boom.
TETRA is a professional mobile radio and two-way transceiver service that also enables firms to track and monitor their assets and people using an automatic vehicle location service (AVLS). For firms working on some of the largest projects, the capacity to manage assets from their operational centre using AVLS is important, as the scale and complexity of the projects increases.
AVL provides a map application for logistics and operational centres to control and manage radio subscribers, groups and alarm, and control functions with map functionality.
It is used to track the location of vehicles and TETRA users equipped with a GPS-enabled TETRA radio. AVLS is able to display subscribers on a graphical map based on GPS information. The dispatcher can perform specific actions using the map, such as calling individuals or groups on the map by touching it.
The TETRA network is one of the largest commercially-available in the region and being evolved into a fully Machine-2-Machine (M2M) compliant service. Following the launch of Ooredoo’s M2M service last year, it has become a popular service and companies have used it to automate day-to-day tasks.
TETRA services include communications services, including group, individual and broadcast calls; compatible handsets available from vendors; and a fully-supported operations and maintenance service, with a 24-hour helpline.
