The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, has advised motorists to be more cautious of their tyres during summer. With the high temperature, motorists are enjoined to regularly inspect their vehicles’ tyres for any possible damage and ensure proper air pressure, especially for those who intend to drive to the beach during the Eid holidays.
High temperatures can become a severe problem for tyres, especially if they are not properly maintained. All tyres – including the spare ones — should be checked regularly.
“Before starting your drive, inspect your tyres for any damage and ensure proper air pressure,” the General Directorate tweeted.
Failure to check and maintain tyres well may cause accidents, especially on major highways, so caution must be taken during this period. Incidents of tyre burst while driving due to high speeds and overload remains a significant problem among road users.
The General Directorate of Traffic also urged motorists to use tyres that are in good condition, stating, “tyres in safe and good conditions ensure durability and stability of the vehicle on the road, keeping you safe from accidents.”
Speaking to The Peninsula, Lt Colonel Jaber Mohamed Rashid Odaiba, Assistant Director of the Media and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, said: “In such hot weather, attention must be paid to vehicles’ tyres, especially for those who intend to drive in highway and external roads.
Lt Colonel Jaber Mohamed Rashid Odaiba added: “These days, especially during Eid, many citizens and residents are preparing to go to the beaches such as Sealine and Al Khor. Therefore, due to high temperature during the day, they have to pay attention to their tyres to avoid accidents caused by tyre bursts. Lt Colonel Odaiba (pictured) stressed that whoever is used to driving his cars for short distances and then suddenly travels a distance of 100km must check the tyres’ status to ensure they are in a condition to withstand this distance and speed.
