Qatar Post yesterday launched the Official Stamp of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Mascot, La’eeb, at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum.
La’eeb, a traditional Qatari ‘Ghutra’ was unveiled during the World Cup draw as the Official Mascot for this year’s tournament.
Last year Qatar Post launched the FIFA Classics collection stamps after signing an agreement with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) as the exclusive stamps provider. Before that, it had also issued an official postage stamp for the tournament in the form of Qatar’s map and bearing the official tournament logo, as well as the state-of-the-art stadiums.
The FIFA Classics maps the history of the last three FIFA World Cup tournaments from South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014) and Russia (2018).
In an earlier statement, FIFA noted that the stamps will increase awareness and buzz in the build-up to Qatar 2022, while after the tournament; they will take collectors on a nostalgic journey back through an iconic FIFA World Cup.
“We gather today to unveil the Official Mascot Stamp and are meeting today in the fourth phase of our journey to document Qatar’s preparations for FIFA World Cup 2022, the first in an Arab country and the last edition to be held in its current form with 32 teams,” Hamad Al Fahida, Chief of Operations at Qatar Post said.
“This mascot is designed innovatively and admired worldwide. There is no doubt that this edition will have a special place for stamp collectors and the Qatari people in particular, as it is inspired by our Qatari culture and our famous Gulf traditional dress,” he added.
Al Fahida stresses that Qatar Post is keen to enhance cooperation with FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as it launches the series, highlighting the previous three distinct publications.
Speaking on the sideline of the launch, Khalid Al Mawlawi, Deputy Director-General, Marketing, Communications and Event Experience at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, said having the World Cup 2022 mascot on a postage stamp, which will be owned by many around the world, will enrich their experience and that of the World Cup.
“My sincere thanks to Qatar Post for their efforts in delivering this important milestone and promoting the tournament mascot. This is just one of many milestones and there’s many more to come with Qatar Post and other entities,” Al Mawlawi added.
