Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Tobacco Control Center received Dr. Ahmed Al Mandhari, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, who paid a brief visit to the Center accompanied by Dr. Rayana Bou Haka, the WHO Representative to Qatar. During the visit, Dr. Al Mandhari met with all staff members at the Center.
Dr. Ahmad Al Mulla, Head of HMC’s Tobacco Control Center said, “During the meeting, we presented an overview of the activities, services, plans and future programs of the Tobacco Control Center. The discussion touched on ways of cooperation with the World Health Organization to support these programs and plans, especially when taking into consideration that our center offers its services to all countries of the eastern mediterranean region.”
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Al Mandhari confirmed that necessary measures will be taken to provide technical support to the Center to facilitate its work and maximize the benefits from the services it provides. In 2017, HMC’s Tobacco Control Center has become the first center in Qatar and the GCC region to be designated by the WHO as a collaborating center for treating tobacco dependence.
