As many as 200 radiologists, orthopaedics and technicians from Qatar and across the region have gathered in Doha for the 12th Arabian Gulf Society of Skeletal Radiology (AGSSR).
Also the MRI in Practice Course and International Skeletal Society (ISS) regional outreach programme is being held in collaboration with AGSSR, at the Simulation Center in Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City, until February 22.
“The five-day comprehensive training for radiologists, technicians, nurses and orthopaedics will enhance their knowledge in diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology,” said Dr. Mahmoud Al Heidous, Deputy Head of Clinical Affairs of Corporate Clinical Imaging Department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
“The courses will increase awareness, improvement and upgrade the medical carder and eventually make a positive impact on patient care,” said Dr Al Heidous, who is also the Head of Clinical Imaging Department at Al Wakra Hospital, speaking on the sidelines of the training programme.
The training programmes are organized by the Clinical imaging department of Al Wakra hospital with support from Corporate Clinical Imaging Department and Hamad Medical Education Center.
“The five-day course has parallel sessions of three components. We have international and local speakers and participants including from different parts of the region including Kuwait, Omam and Jordan,” said Dr Al Heidous.
Among the three components of sessions, the 12th AGSSR features local and international experts on musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging and discuss on the role of MRI and other modalities in selected complex MSK disorders with special emphasis on common dilemmas and pitfalls. The target audience includes practicing radiologists with special interest in MSK imaging.
The MRI in practice is comprehensive review of basic and advanced MRI physics relevant to day-to-day practice in MRI. The world-renowned authors and lecturers present this lecture series. The participants include MRI technologists, practicing radiologists, residents and fellows.
Al Heidous also emphasised that hospitals across the HMC perform a high volume of MRI scanning sessions and the training plays a vital role in improving skills of the participants.
“We have 12 MRI machines across the network of hospitals and an average of 12,000 scanning session are performed every month. The majority of MRI scans are done for conditions in spine or brain. It includes emergency cases, out patients and follow ups,” he said.
While the ISS regional outreach programme brings together leaders in musculoskeletal science, education and clinical practice. International experts on MSK imaging deliver lectures on the state-of-the-art and advanced imaging in the field of diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal diseases with emphasis on radiological and pathological diagnosis.
This will focus mainly on residents, fellows and junior faculty.
