Like auctions in the previous years, the seventh online auction for 25 fancy car number plates this year too was a big hit among enthusiasts as the authorities collected over QR8.5m during the three-day sell-off.

The auction was conducted by the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior through Metrash2 which began on Tuesday and continued until Thursday last week.

About 300 citizens participated in the auction and all of them were able to see and follow the bidding operation. The highest bidding was for the plate 566666 that was sold for more than QR1m followed by plate number 333313 which was sold for QR6,90,000.

The Ministry of Interior said on its official twitter account that under the rules, the bidding of these fancy numbers started from  QR100,000 and participants were required to make a deposit of QR20,000 as guarantee.

The person who have won the bid asked to visit the Directorate within two working days to pay the bidding value. In case the person fails to pay,  it would result in losing the deposit of QR20,000 and number as well.

The payment will be done through bank cheque in the name of Financial Affairs Department of the Ministry of Interior or by credit card.

A total of about QR15m were collected collectively from the fifth and sixth online auctions.

A total of QR9.760m were collected at the sixth online auction, and the plate number 344444 was recorded the highest price of  QR1.25m.

The fifth online auction conducted by traffic department for some 22 fancy car plates had collected more than QR5.5m.
