Passenger Overflow Areas at Qatar airports to keep fans entertained

Doha: Visiting football fans will get the excitement and feel of the World Cup on arrival in the country - starting from airports. 

Various activations are in place including Fan Zone and Passenger Overflow area.

The FIFA World Cup-themed activities will continue until the end of the year, MATAR Chief Operations Officer, Eng. Badr Al Meer said in a press conference yesterday at Park Hyatt in Msheireb Downtown Doha.

“There will be continuous performances and parades. The Passenger Overflow Areas will allow fans to experience the exciting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 excitement until the very end of their journey in Qatar.”

There will be two Fan Zones at Hamad International Airport (HIA) which will allow passengers to watch FIFA matches and engage in AR football activities. A designated ‘Kids Zone’ for young travellers has been set up. And, at least 22 themed performances will be held across the match days.

Doha International Airport started its operations on September 15 and will continue until December 30. Thirteen airlines will be operating from here: Air Arabia, Air Cairo, Badr Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Flydubai, Himalaya Airlines, Jazeera Airways, Nepal Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, SalamAir, Tarco Aviation.

There will be Passenger Overflow Areas in both airports. “This is considered to be a fan zone for passengers. Available from November 9 to December 31 and accessible for passengers arriving four and up to eight hours prior to their flight,” explained Engr. Al Meer.

Among its features are: F&B and retail, gaming area, football pitch, kids area, flight information screen, and lost and found desk.

Qatar Duty Free activations are also placed in and outside the airports. It will likewise operate at the Fan Festival and will have an outlet at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
