NEW YORK: Percy Harvin, who scored a touchdown in Seattle’s Super Bowl victory eight months ago, was traded yesterday to the New York Jets for a future NFL Draft pick.
The deal came on the heels of multiple reports of conflicts involving Harvin in recent months, one of them with former Seattle receiver Golden Tate that left the ex-Seahawk with a black eye.
Harvin and Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin were involved in a pre-season incident in August that ended with a cut on Baldwin’s chin.
And Harvin apparently decided not to re-enter the game when asked in the fourth quarter of a 30-23 loss to Dallas last weekend, having finished the game with three catches for zero yards.
“Although this was an extremely difficult decision, we are constantly evaluating our team and believe at this time that this is in our best interest to move the team forward,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said.
Harvin returned the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown in a 43-8 triumph over Denver in last February’s championship matchup in suburban New York at the same stadium that Harvin’s Jets call home.
The Seahawks, 3-2, obtained Harvin from Minnesota in 2013 but he underwent hip surgery and played only one regular-season game before joining Seattle’s playoff run.
In five games this season, Harvin made 22 receptions for 133 yards and ran 11 times for 92 yards and a touchdown.AFP
