Doha: Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital is partnering with the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) to deliver the 'Young Athlete’s Hip' symposium at Worcester College, Oxford, on September 22, said a press release from Aspetar on Monday.
According to the release, through the partnership, Aspetar is spotlighting its wealth of knowledge and experience of athletes’ unique health and performance challenges.
Aspetar’s active role at the symposium will amplify further collaboration conversations with leaders in the field of sports medicine and science, orthopaedics, and rehabilitation. This collaboration focusses on the young athlete’s hip and co-producing knowledge with patient partners and athletes as the Young Athlete’s Hip Research (YAHiR) Collaborative, the release added.
The YAHiR Collaborative is an international and multidisciplinary community of clinicians, clinician-researchers, patient and public partners, research methodologists, journal editors, and funders, aiming to improve outcomes for young athletes and patients with hip conditions. In addition, the YAHiR Collaborative aims to add research value and reduce research waste on conditions affecting the young person’s hip by promoting open science, supporting young scholars, and prioritising partnerships with minoritised individuals and populations.
“This is an excellent opportunity to continue partnering at the highest level of quality, excellence, and Evidence-Based Medicine with the University of Oxford and many other universities and institutions. This symposium builds on the success of the Oxford-Aspetar-La Trobe Young Athlete’s Hip Webinar Series, and we are excited to continue partnering with leaders in the field”, said Dr Pieter D’Hooghe, Chief Medical Officer at Aspetar.
Professor Siôn Glyn-Jones, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Honourary Consultant Orthpaedic Surgeon, University of Oxford said: “Through partnering with Aspetar on this symposium, NDORMS continue its dedication to sharing expertise and knowledge with international organisations. This education partnership recognises Aspetar’s key role in sports medicine and science, rehabilitation and orthopaedics education, research, and clinical services. Partnering at this level will not only serve young athletes with hip conditions well, but also open doors for further collaboration.”
The Young Athlete’s Hip symposium attracts a large international faculty of more than 35 expert clinicians and clinician-researchers, athletes, patients, journal editors and scientists from world-leading universities. In addition, clinician-researchers from several International Olympic Committee (IOC) Research Centres for the Prevention of Injury and Illness and FIFA will be represented at the symposium.
