ISAKOS collaborates with Aspetar to bring advanced surgical training to region

Doha, Qatar: The International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) has collaborated with the Aspetar Sports Surgery Training Center, aiming to deliver invaluable hands-on training in knee and ankle surgical skills by bringing esteemed international faculty members to the region.

Scheduled to take place from September 26 to 27, this intensive two-day course is for physicians seeking to enhance their surgical expertise. The programme encompasses a mix of didactic sessions, case-based presentations, and hands-on training, allowing participants to refine surgical techniques under the guidance of experienced physician faculty.

ISAKOS, a globally recognised society of surgeons, is dedicated to advancing education, research, and patient care in arthroscopy, knee surgery, and orthopaedic sports medicine. This collaboration reinforces their commitment to spreading knowledge across borders.

Co-chair of the programme, Pieter D’Hooghe MD, PhD who is also the Chief Medical Officer and active Orthopaedic Surgeon at Aspetar said in a video message: ““We have prepared a fantastic programme surrounded and supported by a phonemenal international ISAKOS faculty and as a proud member of the ISAKOS family, I have the privelege to welcome you all to our workshop.”

“It will be basically a workshop on the cadaveric surgical skills. Regarding five topics ACL [anterior cruciate ligament], multiligament, osteotomy, patellofemoral instability, and all the new techniques around the root repair of meniscus, ramp repair and have further meniscal injury approaches.” Moreover, he explained that: “in the afternoon of the second day, you will have the chance to choose between ACL rehab assessment workshop with discharge criteria as a main highlighted feature or an ankle surgical skills cadaveric lab session on lateral ligament repair, reconstruction techniques, posterior impingement and also cartilage new techniques treatments.” All of this will be complemented by fireside sessions facilitating case discussions between faculty and attendees. With the backdrop of the Khalifa Stadium, which hosted the recent male soccer World Cup, participants can enjoy state-of-the-art facilities and nearby accommodations without the hassle of transportation, Dr. D’Hooghe said.

The Aspetar Sports Surgery Training Center (SSTC) is the pioneering hub of its kind in the region, setting up a platform for the exchange of skills, experience, and knowledge both locally and internationally. This workshop, aligned with ISAKOS’s core mission, aims to disseminate cutting-edge surgical techniques, fostering top-notch sports surgical care for athletes and patients while enriching global knowledge.
