To ensure smooth traffic during the Eid Al Adha holiday, the General Directorate of Traffic will increase its activities by deploying more patrols across the country in areas expected to attract more visitors.

“In order to facilitate traffic movement during the days of Eid Al Adha, traffic patrols will be intensified around mosques and praying areas, slaughterhouses, commercial complexes, as well as public parks,” said Lt Colonel Jaber Mohamed Rashid Odaiba, Assistant Director of the Media and Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs had announced it had prepared more than 900 mosques and praying areas for Eid prayers.

“There is a special traffic plan for Eid Al Adha. In the early morning, patrols would be deployed around mosques and praying areas to secure traffic. After that the patrols would head to the slaughterhouses to prevent any traffic jam around it,” Lt Colonel Odaiba said, while speaking to The Peninsula.  He added that the Traffic Department would coordinate with other parties like the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and Widam Company etc.

Lt Colonel Odaiba also emphasised that traffic officials would be present along the highways leading to the beaches in the north and south. He added that all these measures are for the safety of road users, and therefore everyone must adhere to safety measures, especially on highways.

Tala’a project which uses cameras installed at strategic locations of roads and roundabouts will help the Department to monitor and catch traffic violations of all kinds. These cameras could transfer a direct, high-quality image of road traffic. The patrols will continue inspections regarding the precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 including the number of people in a vehicle and checking health status on Ehteraz app.
