Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs announced on Wednesday that the Zakat Al Fitr for this year's Ramadan (1446H) is set at QR 15.
In a statement, the Department called on individuals to ensure the prompt payment of Zakat Al Fitr for themselves and their dependents, irrespective of age or gender.
It stressed that the Zakat Al Fitr must be paid before the Eid Al Fitr prayer.
The Ministry’s statement read: “The prescribed amount for Zakat al-Fitr per individual is two and a half kilograms of the staple food of the country in which it is due. It is to be given to the poor and needy, and it is permissible to pay its monetary equivalent if it serves a greater benefit, which is estimated at fifteen riyals.”
“It is also permissible for a group’s Zakat al-Fitr to be given to a single poor person after the Eid prayer. If someone forgets and pays it after the prayer, there is no blame upon them,” the statement added.
