Speaking to The Peninsula on the occasion of Qatar National Day, Hernandez pointed out that Qatar is a country with important presence regionally and internationally and it has demonstrated its ability to deal wisely with the blockade situation, with no retaliation and building up new bilateral and multilateral partnerships. Qatar’s foreign policy has shown high professionalism based on principles of international law, friendly relations and constructive cooperation with all countries.
“Qatar shares with my country the position of resolving differences through dialogue based on common interests and respect for the sovereignty of states and high respect to all obligations related to human rights,” he said.
Regarding the blockade, the Ambassador clarified that “It is admirable how Qatar overcame the impacts of blockade, and managed in a short time, to overcome most of the siege effects, turning its consequences into very positive gains.
“No doubt Qatar has emerged as the winning side in this blockade,” he affirmed.
Apart from that, Qatar´s massive environmentally-friendly infrastructure programme is impressive, and also a smart move. When you build infrastructure such as these, you are investing in your future-the so called legacy, the development goals set out in the Qatar National Vision 2030, The Ambassador said.
Giving example of these important projects, Hernandez mentioned the Doha Metro is an essential element for success. For the first time in history, people would be able to go from one stadium to the other and watch several matches during the same day, using the public transport system, with a reliable and fast service like these one, which was unknown before.
“The 2022 FIFA World Cup is just one step and this infrastructure will stay after that for Qataris, expats and visitors,” the Ambassador noted.
“This amazing country which I call home, found lately new horizons and partners, and I do feel happy to say that Argentina is one of the new strategic partners. Our relations will be cover all possible fields at the highest possible level,” he said.
During this last time, the Ambassador said, “Our exports to Qatar from our side has increased substantially, Qatar is the main provider of LNG to my country and investments on shore and off shore of Qatar Petroleum are more than relevant for many years to come. Just as an example of the achievements in our relationship, in a period of 12 months several agreement were signed and more will be signed in near future.”
