Kahramaa President Eng Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari with Kahramaa employees, guests and students celebrating QND at Kahramaa headquarters yesterday.
Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) hosted a number of Qatari poets, artists and school students to celebrate Qatar National Day in a traditional way at its headquarters in Al Dafna.
The event was attended by Kahramaa President Eng Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, heads of the departments and sections and employees of the Corporation and others.
The programme began with national anthem followed by military parade by school students. The activities include Al Arda, a Qatari traditional dance, popular games for children, story telling and reciting patriotic songs.
Famous Qatari poets, including Nasir Al Wabir, Hamad Al Baridi and singer Saleh Al Mana recited patriotic poems and songs. Talib Al Jamila, an artist and employee of Kahramaa made a portrait about Qatar National Day and gifted to the President.
Addressing the event, the President said that Kahramaa is committed to make more achievement to contribute in the development of Qatar.
“On behalf of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), I would like to extend my congratulations to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the occasion of the National Day of our beloved country Qatar,” said Al Kuwari.
In a statement issued on the occasion, he said that Qatar is witnessing a comprehensive development in all sectors including human, social, economic and environment, in accordance with a clear vision of wise leadership.
“Kahramaa has succeeded in moving ahead with the implementation of strategic and key projects as planned with the highest standards and quality, overcoming the blockade by fulfilling its commitments to ensure the supply of electricity and water,” said Al Kuwari.
He said that during 2018, Kahramaa made a number of achievements at all levels notably Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project with a total water capacity of 1,500 million gallons, which covers the storage requirements up to 2026. It adds 155 percent to the current water storage capacity of 900 million gallons.
“The performance index of the electricity network is the best in the Arab countries and the world in terms of reliability, keeping pace with urban development and providing an attractive investment infrastructure,” said Al Kuwari.
He said that technical performance index for electricity and water networks were also recorded high level.
“Qatar is the highest Arab country in the electricity reserves, with surplus of over 2,700 megawatts. The production capacity increased by about 30 percent of electricity and 40 percent of water with Umm Al Houl Power Plant, which produces 2,520 MW of electricity and 136 million gallons of water per day,” the added.
Kahramaa has completed more than 80 percent work of power substation for 2022-World Cup stadiums which is being implemented at a cost of about QR800m.
Three stations opened in 2018, bringing the number of stations which came in operating to four.
