Qatari defender Salman says team raring to go

Doha: Qatar’s defender Tariq Salman says the members of the team are determined to bring honour to the country and its ardent fans at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which kicks off on Sunday with hosts taking on Ecuador.

“The atmosphere inside the national team is wonderful,” Salman, 24, said.

“Coach Felix Sanchez has succeeded in creating a good atmosphere in the team. He has played a major role. He is an experienced coach having worked with a number of teams.”

The defender said the Spaniard had trained him for 12 years and gave him confidence that helped him work harder.

Salman called on the Al Annabi fans to support the national team during the matches they play in the World Cup. “It will be a great incentive for us to be at our best.”

Salman said he has had the dream of playing for the national team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 from a young age, particularly since his studies at the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence.

“We have participated in a number of continental championships in the past in preparation for the World Cup, in addition to the camps during which we prepared by playing several friendly matches. Indeed they were important experiences for us and everyone.

“We are ready and waiting for the starting whistle of the opening match.”
