FIFA President Gianni Infantino is set to continue in that position as he will be re-elected to the position unopposed for a third term.

No other candidate had submitted application for the presidency before the deadline on November 16 midnight, making  Infantino the only contestant at the election which will take place at the 73rd FIFA Congress in Rwanda on March 16, 2023.

“…Today is a special day for me in the sense that you might know, yesterday (November 16) at midnight was the deadline for the submission of candidates to the FIFA presidency for the next four years. And FIFA confirmed that at the election on the March 16 next year, there will be only one candidate; and that’s me,” said Infantino speaking in Doha yesterday.

“I would like simply put on record my big thanks for the over 200 member associations of FIFA, all the six confederations who have supported me in this campaign,” he added.

Infantino was addressing the Generation Amazing Foundation’s fourth annual Youth Festival 2022 opening ceremony at Qatar Foundation’s Education City.

“I feel humbled and honoured to be able to serve the global football community for the next four years as well. This will allow me to spend more time with all of you because projects like Generation Amazing are exactly the kind of projects we want to see all over the world,” said Infantino.

Infantino won the FIFA president election in 2016 and replaced Sepp Blatter, and was re-elected unopposed in 2019. He will now continue in the position beyond the FIFA World Cup 2026 which will beheld in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
