Colonel Mohamed Radi Al Hajri, Director of the Awareness and Information Department at the General Directorate of Traffic
Doha: Director of Traffic Awareness Department of the General Directorate of Traffic, Colonel Dr. Muhammad Radi Al Hajri, has said that there is a decrease in traffic violations in the past years and particularly in July this year due to joint efforts made by all authorities concerned regarding road safety.
There is a focus on current traffic plan on three basic elements: Intensifying training of traffic patrol officers, driving schools curriculum outputs and plans related to traffic awareness, he added while speaking to Qatar TV recently.
Al Hajri noted that the major reason for the decline in traffic violations is the awareness among road users. Also roads have become safer and communities are educated about pedestrian crossing.
Surveillance cameras recording traffic violations at intersections and signals have also helped reduce violations especially the ones related to not fastening seat belts and using mobile phones while driving.
These cameras can record some violations committed by motorists like stopping in yellow box at the intersections and signals and other violations of traffic rules.
Not fastening seat belts and using mobile phones while driving are among the most common traffic violations committed by motorists.
The percentage of traffic violations during July 2021 decreased by 20.7 percent to 164,181 violations compared to 206,941 in June 2021.
The figures issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority for July this year stated that the speeding violations were the most prominent violations during the month of July, although they decreased compared to June 2021 by about 24.8 percent and the number of speeding violations in July amounted to 113,243 violations. The statistics also showed that the violations related to driving licenses amounted to 83 violations, and violations of registration and non-renewal Istimara during July were 339 violations.
