Doha: Qatar is witnessing a continuous spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. The Ministry of Public Health reported 1,217 new cases yesterday.
Among the cases, 1,017 were from the community and 200 were among travellers. The total number of active cases in the country is 6,869.
Qatar reintroduced indoor mask mandate amid a spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalisations on July 7, and health officials predicted an increase in the numbers in coming weeks.
No deaths were reported yesterday, and 591 patients recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Two patients were admitted to the ICU within 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients currently in the ICU to six.
Meanwhile, 27 patients were hospitalised within 24 hours, and a total of 102 COVID-19 patients are currently in the hospital. People who were tested for the first time within 24 hours reached 2,854. This brings the total number of people tested in the last 24 hours to 24,345.
The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered till now has reached 7,278,429.
Head of Vaccination at MoPH, Dr. Soha Al Bayat, said earlier that the increase in COVID-19 cases in Qatar is a situation similar to other countries.
“We have recently noticed an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar as well as an increase in number of patients who require hospitalisation,” she said.
