The fifth edition of ‘My Career - My Future’ programme by Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC) has provided an opportunity for 90 high school students to explore different industries and work environments in Qatar.
Through five days students gained hands-on experience from their preferred industry including medicine, aviation, telecommunications, banking, social work, and education during the event held at the Multaqa (Education City Student Center).
On the last day of the event a university fair was held to familiarise students with the academic programmes, degrees offered by universities in Qatar, application requirements, and admission criteria.
“My Career - My Future has been instrumental in equipping our students with practical expertise and industry-specific knowledge. Through immersive job shadowing experiences in various sectors, students have gained a profound understanding of the demands and intricacies of different professions,” said Director of Qatar Career Development Center, Abdullah Al Mansoori, during the closing ceremony of the fifth ‘My Career - My Future’ programme.
“This programme has effectively bridged the gap between academic learning and real-world application, empowering students to make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
“We are proud to witness the growth and capabilities these young individuals have acquired, and we remain committed to providing them with the necessary resources to excel in their chosen fields,” he added.
Participating students were honoured and celebrated in the presence of the QCDC’s leadership and representatives from the programme’s partner organizations during a closing ceremony.
Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event Senior Career Programs and Services Officer, QCDC, Shaheen Hamad Al Sulaiti said that the ‘My Career - My Future’ programme has evolved over the years and aims to equip high school students with valuable insights into the different careers within organisations, the requisite skills for each profession, and a realistic understanding of what to expect in their respective fields.
“The programme provided an opportunity for high school students to experience real work environments across a number of sectors. It has guide students towards finding their future careers and develop their career passion in their potential areas of interest,” he said.
The participating organisations included Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Airways, Amlak Holding Corporation, Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ‘Khahramaa’, Katara Cultural Village, Qatar University, Vodafone Qatar, Qatar Tourism, Commercial Bank, Nama Social Development Center, and Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company.
Career Counselor at Qatar University, Sara Al Kulaifi said, “My Career - My Future is a really effective for students and helpful to choose a major at the university and career path with confidence.”
She also said that the students were very excited to know about the work opportunities at the Qatar University.
Echoing her thoughts, a trainer at Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company, Safiya Abdullah said, “The event has given a very good opportunity for students to know about work environment and choose a career path.”
