Doha: The micro, small and medium sector businesses have benefited from the FIFA World Cup which had a trickle-down effect across all businesses in Qatar, which hosted the world’s glamorous sporting event which is expected to go down well in positioning the Arabian state for trade, tourism, and investments.
The small-scale retailers expressed satisfaction about the state hosting the World Cup which has augured well for businesses during the sporting season.
According to a senior official of Alfardan Exchange at the Old Airport Road branch, there has been a noteworthy increase in currency exchange since the start of the World Cup.
We have seen a remarkable increase in currency exchange during the past month and this will continue for some time even after the tournament, she said.
Eateries, groceries, salons, and vehicle service undertakers at the Old Airport Road said the FIFA Cup was a windfall for businesses that received a fresh boost with sales increasing during the tournament.
“The World Cup came as a blessing for us with fans and visitors from various states dropping in for a meal or takeaway,” Mohammed Rizwan of New Lanka Restaurant said.
The retail sector expects sales to be better during the weekend and as the country expects more visitors for the finals tomorrow.
