Hosting of Asian Games in Doha in 2030 is a yet another boost for the economy, believes Qatar’s private sector. Businessmen say that staging Asian Games in 2030 will lead to more job creation, help in business expansion, increase revenue for various sectors and showcase country’s business potential to the world.
Doha won yesterday the 2030 Asian Games after winning in the voting that took place on the sidelines of the 39th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the Omani capital of Muscat.
“This (winning the bid to host Asian Games) will inject a lot of optimism in the economy. One of the most important aspects of winning the 2030 Asian Games bid is the psychological impact on the different stakeholders of economy. It will encourage businesses to carry on their expansion plans,” Emad Turkman, Chairman of Qatar British Business Forum and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rumaillah Group told The Peninsula.
He added that the enthusiasm in Qatar will continue even after the football world cup is over in 2022. “The preparations for Asian Games will keep the excitement going even after 2022 when the football world cup is over.
Winning this bid is also an answer for people who are asking- what after 2022,” added Turkman.
“Qatar will be well prepared to host the Asian Games because it would have the experience of hosting the football world cup in 2022. With the help of that experience, it would be able to host a successful Asian Games. I have been witness to the positive changes brought by the Asian Games in 2006,” he said.

Tourism, hotels and hospitality, food, telecom and transport sector are expected to be the major beneficiary of this mega sporting event. “Asian Games will immensely benefit the different sectors of the economy especially tourism and hospitality as lot tourists will be coming to the country,” added Turkman. Doha will be organising this event second time as Qatar had hosted the 15th edition of Asian Games in 2006.
“For me, it (winning the bid for Asian Games) was an expected outcome as I was optimistic about this result. It is a very positive development for Qatar’s economy. It will lead to more job creation and attract more expats to the country. Tourism sector will benefit greatly as a lot of tourists will flock to Qatar,” Dr Fariborz Samadian, President of Swiss Business Council Qatar (SBCQ), told The Peninsula.
