Dubai: Bahrain has detected its first monkeypox case, the state news agency BNA said on Friday, citing the health ministry.
The ministry said the patient, a 29-year-old male expatriate, was returning from abroad when his symptoms were suspected and diagnosed, BNA added.
The patient is experiencing symptoms and has been isolated while receiving the necessary care, based on the adopted protocols.
Around 90 countries where monkeypox is not endemic have reported outbreaks of the viral disease, which the World Health Organization has declared a global health emergency, as confirmed cases crossed 60,200 and non-endemic countries reported their first related deaths.
