More than 200 teachers and administrators from schools all over Qatar attended a free, two-hour professional development lecture and workshop entitled ‘Critical Thinking and Bloom’s New Taxonomy’ at Qatar Foundation’s Student Center in Education City.
The public event was organised by Qatar TESOL (Teachers of English as a Second Language) and jointly sponsored by the US Embassy in Qatar and the Academic Bridge Program of Qatar Foundation.
The lecture and workshop were delivered by Janet Orr - Director of TEAL Services: Learning for Development, and an elected member to the International TESOL Board of Directors (2010-13). Orr is active as a youth specialist, basic education consultant, program evaluator, teacher trainer, assessment specialist and curriculum developer. In the US, she served English Language Learners (ELLs) both in Colorado and Virginia. Janet also presented at the first Qatar TESOL conference in 2005.
Her English as a foreign language methodology books, Growing Up with English and Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Primary Schools, embody her interests in primary school curriculum, student assessment, instructional methodology and teacher training. She has served as an education expert in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
On February 22 and 23, 2013, Qatar TESOL will be hosting its 9th annual conference at the Academic Bridge Program (ABP), LAS Building, Qatar Foundation – on the theme of “21ST Century Education – What’s Changing? What’s Not?”
“Qatar TESOL would now like to invite members of the public to submit proposals for the 2013 conference. Proposals which focus on the conference theme will receive first consideration; however, all proposals, particularly practical and pragmatic presentations, on English Language Teaching will be gratefully received and vetted.
