Doha, Qatar: Organisers of Expo 2023 Doha have commenced the selection process for volunteers who will play an important role in the six-month horticultural event.

The interview phase, which began on Saturday, August 12, is scheduled to continue until September 9. Earlier, it was revealed that an impressive 50,000 individuals had expressed their interest in participating in the event, which is scheduled to run from October 2 to March 28, 2024.

The organisers are seeking to recruit a total of 2,200 volunteers to join the ranks of their dedicated #GreenTeam.

Individuals who registered their enthusiasm for becoming a part of the #GreenTeam are now being contacted by Expo 2023 Doha via email. The message reads: “We’d really like to see you! The next step for successful candidates is to be invited for a short face to face interview so we can get to know each other better.” The email provides a link through which applicants can schedule their interview for the Expo 2023 Doha volunteer programme, to be held at the Expo House.

Upon successfully clearing the interview stage, volunteers will be presented with an official role offer. This will be followed by shifts scheduling, training sessions, and eventually the commencement of their volunteering duties during the event.

Over the six-month duration of Expo 2023, each volunteer will be expected to complete a total of 45 shifts, averaging around two days per week. The length of each shift will typically range from six to eight hours, depending on the specific role assigned.

Volunteers will contribute to various functions, including accreditation, ceremonies, ticketing, events and cultural experiences, health and safety, language services, media and broadcast, participant operations, protocol services, visitor services and experience, as well as workforce management. Expo 2023 Doha is poised to make history by becoming the inaugural A1 International Horticultural Exhibition in Qatar, spanning across the Middle East and North Africa. This monumental event is being developed in alignment with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and is being orchestrated under the stewardship of the Ministry of Municipality.

Centered around the theme “Green Desert, Better Environment,” Expo 2023 Doha aims to champion sustainable innovations and combat desertification. The overarching goal is to motivate visitors to actively participate in transformative initiatives within the realms of Modern Agriculture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Awareness, and Sustainability. The chosen theme serves as an inspiration for the global community to explore and embrace groundbreaking solutions for mitigating desertification.
