DOHA: Wonder Of Qatar topped the Al Shahaniya Cup field as popular British jockey Harry Bentley collected four more wins including grabbing the honours in the feature race at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).
Wonder Of Qatar finished the 1100m dirt race ahead of Nawarah by at least two lengths as Bentley posted his fourth win, with trainer Jassim Al Ghazali claiming six wins at QREC, yesterday.
Nawarah was ridden by Alberto Sanna while third-placed Alsefra was ridden by Evert Pheiffer.
Last weekend Bentley powered to six wins while Al Ghazali celebrated a rare all-eight card win.
Bentley now has 91 wins in the 2014-15 season, which is about to conclude with just seven race-days left. Qatari trainer Al Ghazali has 150 wins in the on-going season at QREC.
Bentley also swooped to win in Al Naama Cup as he guided Al Hareth to a comfortable victory ahead of Absher and Al Mazrooah in the 1200m dirt race. Trained by Al Ghazali, Al Hareth finished with a time of 1:10:36.
Bentley’s other wins were scored in races two and three.
In race two, Bentley powered Treasure Cay to win ahead of Bahamian Art and Golden Zephyr in the 1200m race. Treasure Cay clocked a time of 1:11:12.
In race three, Bentley guided Al Ghazali-trained Qaa’ed to victory. Qaa’ed finished with a time of 2:12:58 and ahead of Deebal - who had Almotasem Al Balushi in the saddle. In third place was Ras Al Qimmah, ridden by JP Guillambert who bagged two wins yesterday.
In race one, Guillambert rode Falsafah to victory ahead of Bentley-ridden Jazeerat Al Arab and Marj Eyoun who had Stephan Ladjadj in the saddle.
In race five, Guillambert guided Sandy’s Row to victory with a time of 1:53:08. Sandy’s Row finished ahead of Succeed and Excel (Naif K Alanazi) and Dardawan who was ridden by Sanna.
Meanwhile, QREC yesterday announced sale of horses at the race club. Interested buyers can make a trip down to QREC on April 24 and 25, QREC said.
