Doha: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem yesterday inaugurated ‘Ablan’ Endowment Project comprising five residential buildings in Freej Bin Mahmoud.
The project has added 154 rental apartments of two and three bedrooms with all necessary services to local real estate market.
The revenue from renting the apartments will be spent on the works of ‘Al Bir Wal Taqwa’ (righteousness and piety) according to the condition of the donor.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Culture and Endowments of Republic of Djibouti H E Moamen Hassan Berri, who is currently visiting the country. Director of Endowment Affairs Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani, Director of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Public Health Dr Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani and a number of officials from the Ministry were also present.
Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs said the Islamic endowments have historically been a major support of economic, social and cultural development in many countries of the Islamic world, and a tributary to the consolidation of principles and the promotion of values.
He said the endowment is a basic pillar of sustainable economic development which is a constant support for progress and prosperity in the various areas it is endowed for.
The Minister said the endowment concept in Islam is a shining image of social solidarity, and a clear manifestation of the spirit of love that prevails among the society, whose members are keen to endow their money on areas of goodness and public benefit that take many forms.
He said the endowment represents a community partnership, investment and development, and the Ministry, represented by the General Department of Endowments, is keen to promote the concept of endowment culture in society.
Speaking to the media, Director of Endowment Affairs Department Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamad Al Thani said ‘Ablan’ Endowment Project comprises five residential buildings. The residential complex also has a gym, a swimming pool and space for social activities, Dr. Khalid said.
The endowment project is linked to a historical endowment figure, the benefactor Abdullah bin Saad Abu Warthan, known as ‘Ablan’, whose endowment dates back to 1924.
“Endowment Affairs Department has been developing the endowment to generate revenues to spend as per the condition of endowment,” said Dr. Khalid.
