Doha: The Right Honourable Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, will travel to Qatar tomorrow, February 17, as part of his first visit to the region.
According to a statement from the British Embassy in Doha, the Rt Hon Peter Kyle's visit reaffirms the United Kingdom’s commitment to an upgraded UK-Qatar Science & Technology relationship.
The Rt Hon Peter Kyle will meet with HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation. The Rt Hon will also meet with the Minister for Information, Communications and Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai.
The British embassy statement also announced that the Minister will visit:
• Qatar Computing Research Institute to see a demo of the new Qatari Large Language Model, FANAR, hosted by Dr Ahmed Elmagarmid, Executive Director of QCRI.
• Sidra Medicine, hosted by Dr Iyabo Tinubu-Karch, CEO of Sidra, to see their research facilities and where Qatari and UK researchers have been working together on tackling rare disease.
• Qatar National Library, hosted by Tan Huism, Executive Director of QNL, and where the Rt Hon Peter Kyle will receive a tour of the archives and a brief on how QNL are working with the British Library on the digitisation of rare books, maps, manuscripts, and other items of historical significance, to preserve Arab and Islamic heritage materials.
