Sidra Medicine, a speciality children’s, young people's and women’s healthcare organisation and a member of Qatar Foundation, celebrates two rewarding years of delivering safe patient care.
The hospital building opened and welcomed the first inpatients to be treated in the state-of-the-art facility on January 14 2018. The first baby was born at Sidra Medicine coincided with the opening of the hospital.
Within two years, 2,300 babies were born in the hospital, Sidra Medicine said on it official social media pages.
Initially, treating children requiring low-risk surgeries and women undergoing elective C-sections were seen at the Sidra Medicine. These services were improved through mid-2018 and started services for more complex pediatric surgeries including organ transplant, specialist pediatric services in neurology and cardiology, among others, as well as deliveries, focusing on high-risk pregnancies. The hospital has 400 beds and provides more than 50 clinics and services. In the past two years, Sidra Medicine has cared 263,500 pediatric patients and performed 7,600 pediatric surgeries.
Sidra Medicine opened its Children’s Emergency Department (CED) and Urgent Care Clinic in July 2018 and it has seen 98,894 cases.
Women’s Services at Sidra Medicine include gynaecology, obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, internal/acute care medicine, women’s urgent care and obstetric triage services, perinatal mental health services, women’s health physiotherapy and women’s ultrasound. It has served 58,600 women patients since opening of the hospital.
The International Office at Sidra Medicine provides assistance to patients from outside of Qatar in need of medical care while visiting Qatar and the hospital has cared 536 such pediatric patients in two years. Sidra Medicine has 4000 staff committed to deliver safe patient care including doctors, nurses, researchers, allied healthcare providers and administrative staff.
The US–based Joint Commission International (JCIA) has been awarded to Sidra Medicine for its commitment to high quality care and culture of safety. Also the hospital been awarded institutional accreditation by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I).
The Pathology Laboratories at Sidra Medicine have been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
