For the first time ever, no England or Wales fans were arrested at a World Cup, confirmed Chief Constable Mark Roberts, head of the UK Football Policing Unit.
Roberts said this while releasing a report following England's exit from the quarter-finals that saw France advance to semi-finals.
He said that as compared to 2018 World Cup when there were three arrests, no England or Wales fans were arrested, which is the first time in the football tournament's history.
"Traditionally we do have few arrests of our fans at World Cups, but to have zero isn’t something we have seen before," Roberts was quoted as saying by various publications.
According to media reports, Robert said, "The behavior of England and Wales fans out in Qatar was absolutely exemplary."
"Throughout the home nations' involvement in the tournament there were no arrests or incidents to report, which is a credit to all those who travelled.
"I would also like to praise all the UK officers who travelled out to Qatar for the work they have done in helping to keep British nationals safe during the past four weeks," The Mirror quoted him as saying.
He further added that "the atmosphere at all the home nations' games was passionate but friendly" and hoped to see this replicated at matches back home throughout the rest of the season.
