Katara Football Art exhibition celebrates Russian culture

Doha: Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) continues to offer exciting artistic and cultural activities for the public, and this time the “Katara Football Art” (KFA) exhibition.

The exhibition displayed at Building 18 shows the legacy of FIFA World Cup. And on Friday evening it conducted a Russia Day where it presented glimpses of the culture of the country that hosted last World Cup. The exhibit itself has five pavilions for last the last five countries that hosted the world cup; Japan–Korea in 2002; Germany, 2006; South Africa, 2010; Brazil, 2014; and Russia, 2018. The event also featured live singing where guests were serenaded with melodious songs in both English and Russian languages.

Katara Cultural Affairs and Events Director Khalid Al Sayed said: “Through this exhibition, we want to show that even the football is an art. There are lots of activities outside the football field that include art and culture. We want to promote and show cultures of different countries that hosted the world cups. It is very important. We can see the smile on the faces of the visitors as they witness varied art and cultural activities. It is always very nice to see the competition on the field. It is also however important to see all the beauty outside the football field as well.”

He also disclosed that seeing the Russian culture and art during the event is interesting. “The young dance performer beautifully portrayed the Russian culture,” he added.

Russian Embassy in Qatar Cultural Attache, Vera Pavlova said: “It was a beautiful event. I thank MAPS International and Katara for extending the opportunity to the expatriate Russians to showcase their culture and artistic talents. The dance performances were presented by students of a dance school. Russian artists displayed their talents by painting live. The visitors also enjoyed the live singing.”

For her part, MAPS International WLL Founder and President, Rashmi Agarwal extended her gratitude to Katara for hosting the exhibition. She also paid gratitude to both the Russian Embassy and community in Qatar for arranging the colourful and captivating display of their culture. “The cultural show was well received and appreciated by the visitors at the KFA exhibition that will continue until December 18,” she concluded.
