The Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human  Rights at the  Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Martha Delgadois has lauded the eye-opening conversations with world leaders being held during the Doha Forum 2019.

The annual policy gathering held under the theme ‘Reimagining Governance in a Multipolar World’, is very much allied with Mexico’s strong multilateral foreign policy, said Delgadois speaking to The Peninsula, yesterday.

“This is the very first time the Mexican government has sent a representative to Doha Forum. Mexico has a very strong multilateral policy. Also, multilateralism is seen as a way to solving the most challenging issues in the world,” said Delgadois, who promotes Mexico’s multilateral foreign policy agenda.

“Right now Mexico is attending all the relevant forums to raise awareness about the importance of multilateralism. This year I have attended around 35 forums. So it is a great opportunity for us to come to the Doha Forum. The event is perfectly organised with good planning, diversified speakers and the theme is delivered very well,” she added.

The Doha Forum has attracted around 3,000 participants from different countries of the world and more than 250 speakers, includes a set of plenary and discussion sessions and keywords centred on global topics and issues such as migration, refugees, extremism, global governance challenges, agency wars, as well as regional cooperation mechanisms and new global balances.

Delgadois with a wide experience in environmental issues and migration issues said that she is interested in learning more from discussions on multilateralism, environmental issues, social welfare and development during the Doha Forum.

Commenting on Qatar-Mexico relations, Delgadois said that Mexico is keen to enhance ties in political, trade and cultural areas with Qatar.

“Mexico is now diversifying its relations with countries in all regions. We look to increase our economic participation in international markets and Qatar is one of the them that we are looking to strengthen trade ties. I held discussions with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar and will be meeting representatives of the Qatar Investment Authority. We see so much of potential for trade and cultural exchange with Qatar,” said Delgadois.

“We also want to drive our relationship in a political view, and Qatar is strategically due to the geopolitical relationship. Qatar is experiencing blockade, Mexico is also experiencing threats of blocking the tariff, and we have migrant problems,” she added.
