Despite the blockade and brothers’ conspiracies, Qatar succeeded in reaching the final round of Unesco’s elections and its candidate received 28 votes in the last round, two votes short of the French candidate, and took the lead in the first four rounds of elections, said Dr. Khalid bin Mubarak Al Shafi, Editor-in-Chief of The Peninsula while talking on a Qatar TV talk show over the recent Unesco election.
“This success reflects Qatar’s good reputation, and that Qatar deserve to win the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco),” Al Shafi added.
He also questioned how Egypt supported France and not Qatar. “It is shame for an Arab country to do like this while both Qatar and Egypt are members of Arab League. Egypt foreign minister statement was strange when he expressed his hope that France should win against Qatar. How after this they can talk about pan-Arab. The headquarters of Arab league must be shifted from Egypt.”

“The envy blinded them and they forgot Arab and Islamic brothers and this is not the first time that they have done like this. Qatar will continue its successes and as it succeeded to host World Cup 2022. It will continue achieving successes not only in sports but also in education as Qatar topped Arab countries in primary and high education,” Al Shafi noted.
About Qatar’s candidate Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, he said that “Al Kawari worked in Unesco, served as Qatar’s ambassador to many countries and also worked as a Minister of Culture and Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and has command on multiple languages which make him qualified and he deserves to be the director-general of the Unesco,” Dr. Al Shafi added.
“This success of reaching the final round means that the countries are not measured by their areas and countries like Egypt must know that Qatar’s success is for all Arab countries and not only for Qatar and if you don’t help Qatar then at least you should not vote against it. Qatar still continues its successes although that neighbouring countries stand against Qatar and accusing it,” he pointed out.
“The Unesco needs a person like Al Kawari and his programme includes a new vision to restore the cultural renaissance of the organisation. If we look by objectivity we can say that Al Kawari deserves to be the Director-General but we also believe in election and win and lose,” he said.
“Qatar, through Unesco, was planning to spread education and peace and countries like Egypt don’t want that and that is why they don’t like Qatar to win,” he said, adding Qatar was achieving successes in all fields like education, sports and on economic front and will continue its success either they like it or not.
