Manila: An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck on Thursday in Batangas province in the Philippines.
The epicenter of the quake occurred 64 km from the Municipality of Calatagan, at a depth of 119 km, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The Embassy of the State of Qatar has called on its citizens in the Batangas province, south of Manila, and its surrounding areas, to take the utmost care and caution.
The embassy stated that following the directives issued by the concerned authorities aftershocks are expected.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material losses due to the earthquake.
The Philippines is witnessing increased volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, where tectonic plates intersect.
