Most mistakes committed by motorists are related to lane-changing without giving signals which cause ‘70 percent of accidents’.
“According to our experience, most of the traffic mistakes are seen in the streets and committed by motorists who change one lane to another without using signals. It causes 70percent of accidents in addition to disregarding stop signs and red lights, especially by the youth,” said Billal Nassar of Dalla Driving Academy pavilion at Darb El Saai.
“In our pavilion, we are receiving about 3,000 visitors daily and we are offering simulation device to raise traffic safety awareness, especially for those aged above 18. Also, we focus on important traffic rules such as following speed limits, wearing seat belt and not using mobiles while driving and not running a red light,” he added.
Another important thing we are focusing on is teaching people to cross the road safely. “We have also provided a vehicle structure to let people know about the mechanical side and they are taking interest in it as they like practical explanation on a vehicle’s mechanical working,” he said.
Replying to questions on a recently imposed ban on 80 job categories from getting driving licence and its impact on the demand for learning driving, he said: “The demand has decreased by 40 percent especially from people seeking light-vehicle licences”.
“Currently, more people are asking crane licence and also light licence, and we provide courses in our academy in eight languages and also offer training to all vehicles types — truck, bus, car or crane,” he said.
“We usually participate in events like GCC Traffic Week and Darb El Saai, and sometimes otganise lecture sessions for schools to increase awareness about traffic safety.”
“It was very interesting for me in Qatar Traffic pavilion to get practical explanation of the vehicle structure and its mechanics,” said Omar, a visitor at Darb El Saai.
